Raiziss/de Palchi Translation Awards

Established in 1995, this award recognizes outstanding translations into English of modern Italian poetry through a $10,000 book prize and a $25,000 fellowship, given in alternating years. The fellowship is given to enable an American translator to travel, study, or otherwise advance a significant work-in-progress. The winner of the fellowship also receives a residency at the American Academy in Rome.

Submissions for the fellowship are accepted in even-numbered years from September 1 to January 31, and an entry form is required. To obtain the guidelines and entry form for the fellowship, please follow the links below or send a stamped, self-addressed envelope to the Academy. In odd-numbered years, submissions for the book prize are accepted from September 1 to January 31. Publishers may submit translations published anytime in the past (not necessarily in the year of the judging), but only books by living translators are eligible. Self-published books are not accepted. The decision of the judges is expected the following March.
