From the ILD Administrator

Dear all,
the official program for the ATA annual conference in Boston will be available in about a month, but I would like to give you a little preview of what to expect.

The Italian lineup for this year will include 4 presentations plus the division meeting.

I am very glad to inform you that, after the successful experience in New York, we are going to host our second distinguished speaker at the Boston conference.
Many of you had expressed an interest in hearing about style issues, so I am particularly satisfied with the outcome of our search and hopefully you will be as well.

Our Division distinguished speaker for this year is Tim Parks, a well known writer and translator of works by Calasso, Calvino, Moravia and Machiavelli.
Also, he is the author of Translating style, a book that is considered a classic in translation studies, and runs a post-graduate translation degree at IULM University in Milan.

Tim will give two lectures (Thursday, October 27, from 11:30-12:30pm, and Friday, October 28, from 2:30-3:30pm) about style in translation, one of which based on the re-translation of classics.

The other two sessions will be presented by Barbara Arrighetti (subject: legal) and by myself, together with Barbara (subject: finance).

The division meeting is scheduled for Thursday, October 27 from 2:30 to 3:30 pm.

I would like to invite all ILD members to join us in Boston and participate actively to the language-related program.

It is specially important to attend the division meeting, as there we have a
lot to talk about.
I will send out the meeting agenda shortly before the conference. If you
would like to submit items to be included in the agenda, please contact me
(ild@francescamarchei.com) or Roberto (mail@robertocrivello.com) as soon as
possible, but above all, please come to the meeting and bring your ideas and
suggestions: we need your contribution to make sure the Italian division
serves its members in a relevant and effective manner.

And last, but not least, we are in the process of finalizing the ILD social
event, that will take place on Friday, October 28.
It will be an informal gathering with nice food and cash bar, in a very
pleasant and welcoming setting. Take the opportunity to meet your fellow ILD
members, chat and relax in a good atmosphere.
If you would like to participate, please let us know at your earliest
convenience, so that we can give the restaurant a more precise number.

I look forward to seeing you there!
