This handbook offers an approach for bilingual medical consultations. It is designed to help health professionals and patients who do not have language in common. It is intended to assist health professionals working in hospitals or in primary care as well as in international settings (relief operations, humanitarian programmes, NOGs, etc). This guide is the result of combined experience and reflection on the part of interpreters, physicians, nurses, social workers, psychiatrists and teachers. It is meant to give its readers access, in a simple and practical form, to efforts to improve mutual communication between patients and health care workers.
